An exceptional, highly documented antique 1902 color lithograph titled "Nu" (Nude) by modernist master Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917). This specific print comprises Plate 15 from the celebrated "Le Jardin des Supplices" (The Garden of Tortures) portfolio, commissioned and published in Paris by legendary art dealer Ambroise Vollard in a deluxe limited edition of 200 copies.
The work represents a direct collaboration between Rodin and the foundational master printer of color lithography, Auguste Clot. Clot masterfully transferred Rodin's fluid, spontaneous graphite work and minimalist orange-toned watercolor washes directly onto the lithographic stones under the artist's watchful supervision. The signature is cleanly printed in the plate in the lower-right margin.

This sheet boasts flawless mid-to-late 20th-century retail lineage from the prestigious Franz Bader Gallery of Washington, D.C. The authentic, vintage typewriter-typed gallery label remains intact, explicitly matching this sheet to deluxe portfolio copy #128 of 200, acknowledging the production hand of Auguste Clot, and securing the print's historical chain of custody. Features historic, faint pencil notations on the upper-left verso reading "1 out of 15 color lithographs..." and the original gallery inventory stock number "264 517-3" in the bottom-left corner.
Adding considerable standalone value to this lot, the piece remains housed in its original, mid-century museum-grade float frame designed and signed with the etched "RL" monogram of legendary framing pioneer Robert Kulicke (New York). This iconic frame style features vintage Lucite component clips that naturally show an amber patina from age.

Localized Water Stain (Tidemark) & Cockling: A faint, historic moisture stain is visible in the left quadrant of the paper substrate, showing a dry ring near the margin edge. This historic liquid exposure has induced minor localized surface cockling (gentle waving/rippling) across the sheet, visible under raking light due to the float nature of the frame mounting. The central figural illustration remains clear. 2. Perimeter Mat Burn & Minor Foxing: A distinct dark amber/tan oxidation band tracks consistently along the outer edges of the paper substrate from historical non-archival matting used prior to the current float presentation. One pinpoint foxing mark is on the upper margin. 3. Upper-Right Verso Corner Repair: The top-right corner on the reverse side features a historic 1/2-inch triangular brown paper tape reinforcement patch covering old hinge skinning. 4. Bottom-Right Verso Handling Crease & Dimple: The lower-right corner tip exhibits a minor, soft diagonal handling crease on the verso. On the recto (front), a minor, non-breaking surface dimple/compression mark is visible near the printed signature under raking light. The paper fibers remain entirely unbroken with no surface losses or scratches. 5. Hinging Residue: The upper reverse edge retains two old woven cloth linen hinges with dried hide glue residue. The paper substrate retains its crisp, un-trimmed square edges with zero tears or paper losses. This work is an ideal candidate for straightforward aqueous stabilization washing and flattening by a certified paper conservator to draw out these historic impurities and elevate the piece to museum-grade condition. less
