Paul Gilles
A pair of French art deco double wall sconces by Paul Gilles. Done in nickel plated bronze or solid brass and clear frosted molded-pressed glass. They were made circa 1930-1935. The shades were produced for Paul Gilles by Degué. All four are signed Gilles. Paul Joseph Gilles (born in 1876) was a producer of art deco lighting fixtures with a large factory and shop at 27 rue Esquirol in Paris. In the 1929 Gilles product catalog we can see a version as single wall sconce with a handblown coloured glass shade. The catalog is no part of this sale.
The sconces are 20,5 cm (8") high and 28 cm (11") wide. They project some 17,5 cm from the wall. They are in excellent condition. I re-nickeled and patinated the mountings. The wall lights are rewired with American candelabra base sockets.
