It features … Read more This is a carved mahogany pedestal plant stand, styled closely after classical English revival or Victorian furniture aesthetics. It features a square top bordered with dense gadroon carving along the edges and elaborate floral/foliage aprons below. It is decorated with neoclassical carved swags (drapery chords) and carved rosettes at the leg corners and is supported by tall, slender column legs unified by a cross-stretcher supporting a central carved pineapple finial. There is no maker's mark on this piece. The wood is in very good shape with the exception of a few scratches on the top.(pictured) Unfortunately, one of the side drapes is missing (pictured). The two spots on the underside where the drape was attached show where the drape came off. There is no damaged wood as a result of this condition.
This specific plant stand matches a 20th-century vintage reproduction design by Bevan Funnell (Reprodux), a highly-regarded British manufacturer known for premium-grade antique furniture replicas. The value is supported by the detailed craftsmanship, which features a square top with a gadroon edge, four distinct hexagonal legs, carved drapery swags, and a central cross-stretcher supporting a carved pineapple finial.
Because of the missing drape the asking price for this piece is 50% of what the value would be for an intact piece. We deemed the piece worthy of locating a new home because of its beauty and the possibility that it can be displayed and used without being able to see the missing
drape.
