An exceptional pair of artist-made stools dating to circa 1960, handcrafted from forged iron and solid oak. The sculptural tripod bases are ingeniously constructed from antique skeleton keys, each key carefully welded into an openwork framework that transforms utilitarian objects into striking works of functional art. The intricate composition of varied key forms creates a rhythmic, geometric design from every angle while maintaining remarkable visual lightness.
The stools are fitted with thick, circular solid oak seats whose warm patina provides a rich contrast to the dark, hand-forged iron bases. Triangular stretchers reinforce the construction while echoing the sculptural quality of the design. Each stool is branded to the underside by the artist, attesting to its handmade origin and individuality.
Displaying exceptional craftsmanship and a highly imaginative use of reclaimed materials, these rare stools function equally well as seating, side tables, or sculptural accent pieces. Their whimsical yet sophisticated aesthetic makes them an outstanding addition to interiors ranging from industrial and Brutalist to rustic and contemporary.
