This is a beautiful, highly collectible Chinese Peking Glass table-top snuff bottle. Standing at an impressive 4.5 inches tall, this oversized bottle was designed as a stationary scholar's desk masterpiece rather than a pocket flask.
Artistry and Craftsmanship:
This piece utilizes a technically demanding double-overlay cameo glass technique. Intricate black glass is carved directly over a vibrant orange glass layer, all resting atop an opaque milk-white core.
• Side A features a highly detailed panoramic landscape scene depicting a seated scholar or monk next to a pavilion, stylized rock formations, and flying birds.
• Side B showcases beautifully balanced flora and natural motifs.
• The base features a clean, uncarved raised black glass oval foot rim with no maker's mark.
Specifications:
• Type: Table-Top / Desktop Snuff Bottle
• Material: Multi-Layered Peking Cameo Glass
• Height: Approximately 4.5 inches including stopper
• Colors: Opaque White, Orange, and Black
The carved glass body itself is in excellent vintage condition with no major chips, structural cracks, or repairs. Please note two specific condition points regarding the stopper assembly:
1 There is a small visible chip on the outer edge of the orange glass collar directly below the red dome stopper.
2 The spoon mechanism is entirely absent. The red cabochon stopper features a clean, flat synthetic backing insert ensuring a secure friction fit into the neck.
