The chair rests atop a burl walnut plinth with a curved sled leg base separating the plinth from the floor. Satin black lacquer allows the base to all but disappear into the shadow of the chair, imparting a sense that it hovers slightly above the ground.

Antiqued brass nailheads run the perimeter of the base and back, highlighting the curved lines that give the chairs their deco feel.

This pair was last sold three decades ago by a vintage dealer in Hollywood who traced their origin to a train station in Milan. Although we have been unable to definitively identify a designer, they bear strong resemblance to Poltrona Frau’s Model 904 chair, introduced in 1930 and officially renamed the Vanity Fair chair in 1984.

Whatever the case may be, they are beautiful, exceptionally comfortable, and newly upholstered in a generous quantity of Edelman Royal Hide leather. See less
