This handcrafted art pottery figurine is a classic "Southern Belle" grotesque figure created by the historic Overbeck Sisters at their legendary studio in Cambridge City, Indiana. Primarily modeled by Mary Frances Overbeck, these charmingly disproportionate "grotesque" characters are highly stylized, featuring a delightfully simplified face with minimal features and stylized blonde hair. The lady wears a wide, forward-tilted cream sun bonnet decorated with a pink rosette and a deep blue under-brim. Her voluminous hoop skirt gown is rendered in a vibrant, thickly glazed color palette, boasting prominent tiers of rich magenta ribbons layered between scalloped folds of deep royal blue ruffling. Small hand-painted pink and blue floral sprigs accent her white sleeves and bodice, while her hands rest close to her waist holding a matching pink and blue fan.
