A commemorative ornament honors the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase (1803-2003).
The center of the ornament showcases a detailed, brass-etched geographical map outlining the vast Louisiana Territory purchased from France. Text overlays on the map delineate historic territorial boundaries, such as the "United States 1803," "Spanish," and "Disputed Territory."
Surrounding the central territory map is a circular ring decorated with miniature, colorful enamel state flags representing the 15 modern-day U.S. states that were eventually carved out of the historic 1803 acquisition. The perimeter banner arches gracefully around the design, reading
"Louisiana Purchase" on the right side and
"1803 Bicentennial 2003" on the left side.
The piece rests securely in a form-fitting black velvet insert inside a matching, executive metallic-gold color collector's box. The box lid mirrors the complete graphic emblem design printed directly onto its outer surface.
