This pair of table lamps, adorned with shades featuring the Bellis motif (stylized daisies), was created around 1929 in the Wingen-sur-Moder workshops by René Lalique. Measuring 45 cm high and 15 cm in diameter, these lamps perfectly illustrate the transition between the waning Art Nouveau and the emerging Art Deco aesthetic, a period during which Lalique devoted himself entirely to glass after having reigned over French jewelry. The Bellis motif, drawn from the floral repertoire dear to the artist, testifies to his constant fascination with nature and his taste for the geometric stylization of plant forms, characteristic of his glass production in the 1920s and 1930s. The opalescent whiteness of the glass, achieved through remarkable technical mastery, diffuses a soft and enveloping light, revealing the relief of the molded petals in slight relief. René Lalique (1860-1945), initially celebrated as a brilliant jeweler at the turn of the century, reinvented himself after the First World War, becoming one of the undisputed masters of modern decorative glass, combining semi-industrial production with absolute artistic rigor.
