The icon, characteristic of Ethiopian and Coptic Orthodox worship, features at the center the figures of Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms, flanked by two angels with swords. Surrounding them, in nine separate panels, are figures of Saints (Saint George at the bottom center) and other angels; at the top center, God the Father in three identical figures, representing the traditional depiction of the Holy Trinity, and in the corners of the panel, the four symbolic figures of the evangelists. The panel shows small areas of paint loss. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
