An elegant center desk (bureau plat) from the Neoclassical era (Louis XVI style), attributable to the Southern Italian cabinetmaking scene (Neapolitan or Sicilian) of the late 18th century.
The piece features the typical architectural and rigorous structure of the period, resting on four truncated pyramid legs that elongate the figure. The front panel is enhanced by a central open compartment flanked by four side drawers (two on each side) and a larger central drawer.
The most valuable element is the inlay and veneer (marquetry) in various precious woods (boxwood, rosewood, rosewood). The upper surface, finished with a double geometric perimeter frame, features a large quadrilobed diamond-shaped rosette in the center, which is also repeated with great perspective consistency on the sides.
