Charming casual watercolor painting of a young woman dressed in a rich turquoise aqua blue dress. Dated lower right "Oct. '36." From a portfolio of works by Helen Sophia Barth, unsigned. Painted on heavy off-white art paper stock. Several small stray spots consistent with age of the work, not detracting.
Ms. Barth (1920-2012) was a prolific midcentury painter from the Philadelphia PA area. She was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. Her artistic training came from the Fleisher Art Memorial program of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is the oldest community-based art program in America.
