A beautifully preserved hand-colored map of Venice (Venezia / Venédig) published under the supervision of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK), one of the most respected English cartographic publishing organizations of the nineteenth century. Based on the engraving quality, typography, hand coloring, and visible plate impression, this work is believed to be an original early 1830s copperplate engraving.
The detailed composition presents an intricate plan of historic Venice, illustrating its iconic canals, bridges, public squares, gardens, and prominent civic buildings with remarkable precision. An inset map depicts the surrounding Venetian Lagoon, while an engraved vignette of St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, and the Mint adds both historical context and decorative appeal.
Professionally conservation framed by Stanhope Framers behind UV-filtering plexiglass, the artwork has been carefully preserved and is ready for display. The classic black frame with gilt inner liner complements the engraving beautifully, making it equally suited for traditional, European, library, coastal, or contemporary interiors.
Whether acquired for its historical significance or timeless decorative appeal, this exceptional map offers an elegant glimpse into nineteenth-century cartography and the enduring beauty of Venice.
