Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. This is a FABULOUS coffee or cocktail table bearing a handsome petite rectangular frame composed of a horizontal triple stacked rattan edge surrounding a beautiful black laminate top lifted upon vertical rattan stalk legs on each end secured with rattan wraps at the joints and a horizontal single rattan stalk low stretcher by Sons-Cunningham. It exudes an Art Deco or Coastal aesthetic with flairs of Mission/Arts and Crafts, British Colonial, Bar Harbor, South Seas, Coastal Cottage, Resort, Island, Boho, Bauhaus, or Early Modernist… SO many incredible styles!!! It would be wonderful adorned with tropical foliage and plants in your sunroom or in front of your sofa in the living or family room and it’s the perfect spot to set your cocktail or cup of coffee. Sons-Cunningham or Sons-Cunningham Reed & Rattan Company Inc. was a high-end American furniture manufacturer that operated out of New York City during the early 20th Century specializing in crafting luxury, highly artistic rattan, reed, and wicker furniture. They peaked in popularity during the 1910s through the 1920s and their primary showroom and corporate headquarters were located in NYC. They catered to affluent buyers wanting to remodel upscale casual spaces. They were recognized for elevating woven furniture from simple outdoor utility pieces into sophisticated indoor decorative art. Their advertisements frequently spotlighted complete room sets including armchairs, rockers, settees, tables, and even woven floor lamps. The company was privately held and quietly faded from operation, likely due to the Great Depression, so there is not a date recorded in public archives for their closure. Labeled furnishings can be reliably dated between 1910 and 1932. Their furnishings are highly sought after today among vintage enthusiasts.
