This substantial piece is a beautiful, hand-thrown reproduction honoring the iconic Sancai (three-color) lead-glaze earthenware of China's Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD).
Standing out from smaller market variants, this vessel features a grand, expertly formed 10x10-inch ovoid body exhibiting the subtle character and beautiful care of an entirely hand-thrown artisan piece. It is dressed in a rich, warm amber ground glaze that flows dynamically across the surface and features beautiful kiln pooling around the lower base. Hand-applied, molded floral rosette medallions are featured symmetrically across the shoulders, highlighted in contrasting deep green and creamy white glazes that puddle beautifully within the relief crevices.
A blacklight test confirms its 20th-century decorative origin, displaying a soft purplish hue standard for mid-to-late century artisan glazing protective compounds.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The body is structurally sound with gorgeous glaze execution. There are a few small, minor chips located along the raw, unglazed bottom edge. This wear is entirely normal for the age, material, and traditional creation style of this art pottery, blending seamlessly into the base and lending the piece an authentic, time-honored aesthetic.
