Probably dating from the 18th century, the work reflects the visual traditions of Northern European painting, particularly the taste for intimate narratives exploring charity, social contrast, and human character.

The gentleman stands at the left in a dark coat, broad hat, and carefully arranged period dress, extending one hand toward a seated woman who gestures upward while holding a walking stick. Behind her, an elderly bearded man watches the exchange. Their expressive faces and gestures create a quiet but compelling narrative, suggesting an appeal for assistance or an act of charity without identifying a specific historical or literary episode.

The composition is built through a restrained palette of deep browns, muted ochres, black, and warm flesh tones.
