I bought this painting with my husband, on a trip to Paris around 2010. You can see a photo with our old shipping address in Los Angeles. The sticker is still on the back of the painting. (Today we live in Arizona).
We paid cash US$10,000 at Galetie Annik Mancheron.
Before I listed this painting on Chairish for the first time, I did research on the internet and I found out that the painting had been auctioned at much less in 2007 (see photos).
The galerie added the cost of the auctioneer, plus the bidder for the galerie, plus the galerie profit, so we as tourists ended buying it at premium price point from the galerie who had bought previously at auction.
I have now reduced the price and added the photo of the auction in 2007 so you can assess that the art gallery bought at auction and then repriced it for sale to private customers like us tourists.
I kept the card from the galerie annik mancheron with the transport (EDET international) phone number written on the side of the gallery card given to me and my husband, and the French description of the artist. (See photos). This description comes from a book that documents artists and paintings and the galleries make a photo copy to hand out to the buyer as provenance documentation or proof of authenticity.
The reference to EDET shipping to us by the gallery is evidenced by the phone number on the business card which matches the transport sticker still on the back of the painting.
Also, I have done my due diligence and research to verify the authenticity of this beautiful piece. This artist natural signature is evidenced by the pink clouds on the Venetian sky which is also prevalent in other pieces (same delicate strokes and color) by the same artist.
Also the way he paints the water is very unique.
I had to look closely for his unique details because he tends to sign differently on different paintings, which was customary in Europe at the time.
There are other of his paintings that have sold at a lesser price but those are not as vibrant as the one that show sunset sunlight on the boat sales and on the canal water and sky above.
As you know, not every painting by the same artist is worth the same.
I am now selling it below what I paid plus the Chairish discount/commision will yield less that the asking price.
I am not selling it to make a profit. Simply due to a downsize from LA to Arizona.
Description:
Albert Ferdinand Duprat (signed A Duprat, also A G Duprat), was borne in Venice Italy in 1882 and died in France in 1974.
He developed his artistic skills at the Ecole des Beaux Art in his birth city.
He loved Venice and he consistently depicted Venice scenes - the canals, monuments, and environs of Venice.
He was very interested in studying and painting the effects of light on the water and sky.
My husband and I bought this painting at Galerie Annick Mancheron, in Paris, France.
Its title translates as Sales in Venice in front of the Dukes Palace.
