This is a one-of-a-kind ceramic table lamp base, an artist's studio original, decorated with William Morris's "Acanthus" pattern. Morris designed Acanthus in 1875, and it is one of the best-known botanical patterns of the art nouveaux British Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic movements. The pattern is hand-applied to a baluster-form ceramic body, with a hand-applied metallic paint finish on the metal base, neck collar, and cap. The form is classic and traditional and works with English country, cottage, Grandmillennial, traditional, transitional, and maximalist interiors.
The lamp is fully working and has a new switch knob. It is sold as a lamp base only, with the harp fitting. The shade and finial shown in the photos are for styling and are not included. At 22" high and 7" in diameter, it suits a living room console or sofa table, a bedroom nightstand or dresser, a home office desk, a library or den, an entry table, or a sunroom.
