Morris designed Cray in 1884 for Morris & Co. as a printed chintz textile, and it is a well-known example of the British Arts and Crafts movement's large-scale floral chintz. The motif is oversized carnation-type blooms, serrated foliage, and trailing stems. The pattern is applied by hand to a ginger jar style urn form and sealed

The metal base and cap are finished in hand-applied metallic paint wash over a lavender paint. The look suits traditional, English country, cottage, chintz, Grandmillennial, Arts and Crafts, and maximalist interiors.
