Offered is a large tray by Couroc of Monterey, California with an inlaid fish motif featuring brass encasing pebbled mosaic stones. It's an early piece, circa 1950s, designed by Moira Wallace Courvoisier, the wife of Couroc's founder Guthrie Courvoisier.
The base tray is made of a proprietary black lacquer phenolic resin (water, burn, stain, and detergent-resistant plastic), a creation he developed for World War 2 planes, and inlaid abalone shell, onyx, turquoise, and pale blue and gray stones to represent the fish's scales, fins and eyes.
It bears the original Couroc manufacturer's foil label and an embossed logo.
It measures 18" long, 12.375" wide, .75" deep.
