An exceptional monumental studio pottery vase by American ceramic artist Oliver Boyd, signed and dated 1997.
Standing an impressive 17.5 inches tall, this one-of-a-kind hand-thrown vessel showcases Boyd's signature painterly glazing with dramatic cobalt blue, oxblood red, ivory, olive, and soft blush tones flowing organically across the surface. The abstract composition creates a different visual experience from every angle, while the striking cobalt-flamed neck draws the eye upward.
A distinctive applied ceramic medallion near the base further emphasizes its handcrafted nature, making this a true collector's piece rather than a production ceramic.
Large-scale signed studio pottery of this caliber works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors and is substantial enough to make a statement on a console, entry table, library cabinet, or dining room sideboard. It is equally stunning displayed with two sculptural magnolia stems or olive branches or simply enjoyed as an art object on its own.
The rich glaze palette complements Grandmillennial, English Country, Southern Traditional, Modern Traditional, Organic Modern, and Transitional interiors.
