This large (21.5" × 22") luminous screenprint is an original working print produced during Josef Albers’ creation of the 1970 I-S (Ives-Sillman) Alphabet Series. The corresponding published work, "I-S e," is catalogued as No. 194 in Brenda Danilowitz’s 2010 Catalogue Raisonné of Albers’ prints. What makes this piece particularly special is that the I-S series was issued in a limited edition of just 125 impressions—considerably smaller than many of Albers’ more readily available Homage to the Square prints--and this rare working impression offers collectors something even more valuable: a tangible artifact of Albers’ celebrated printmaking process and his meticulous exploration of color, form, and visual perception.
This authentic screenprint retains the slight hand-pulled registration characteristics typical of impressions produced by Sirocco Screenprints, lending each sheet its own subtle individuality. It has been professionally cleaned and is beautifully presented in a custom museum-quality white frame behind UV-protective conservation glass, ready to hang.
A timeless example of Albers' groundbreaking investigation into color theory, this work is equally at home in a sophisticated modern interior, a curated art collection, or a designer space.
