A luminous original Josef Albers' screenprint on German Etching Paper by Ives-Sillman, Inc., New Haven and hand-pulled by Sirocco Screenprints. Catalogued in Brenda Danilowitz's 2010 Catalogue Raisonné of Alber's work as No. 194. This particular print is very rare as it was part of the I-S (Ives-Sillman) Alphabetical Series from 1970 in which Homage to the Square prints were named sequentially by letter. This particular print corresponds to the letter "e." Also of note, the prints from the Alphabetical Series were larger in size than previous print runs of Albers work. This print measures 21.5" x 22." The Alphabet Series was also made in smaller editions of only 125 compared to the previous and more ubiquitous Homage to the Square print runs of 1000.
Throughout his career, Albers explored the psychology of color, demonstrating how neighboring hues transform the viewer's perception. In this composition, radiant bands of luminous yellow gradually dissolve into subtle gray and warm white, creating a remarkable sense of depth, light, and visual vibration despite the work's geometric simplicity. The result is both meditative and strikingly contemporary.
This authentic screenprint retains the slight hand-pulled registration characteristics typical of impressions produced by Sirocco Screenprints, lending each sheet its own subtle individuality. It has been professionally cleaned and is beautifully presented in a custom museum-quality white frame behind UV-protective conservation glass, ready to hang.
A timeless example of Albers' groundbreaking investigation into color theory, this work is equally at home in a sophisticated modern interior, a curated art collection, or a designer space.
