Bench with slatted top and frame with reinforced crosspieces. Made in Italy, 1970s.
Made in Italy in the 1970s, this slatted bench is part of the modernist design movement that fused rationalist aesthetics with traditional Italian cabinetmaking. The frame is crafted from fine, dark-toned wood and features a seat with parallel longitudinal slats secured with exposed screws, a technical solution typical of modular and multifunctional furniture of the time. The base is composed of four square-section legs connected by a system of reinforced crosspieces arranged in an "H" shape with interlocking joints. This type of bench, popular in Italy in the wake of the experimentation of designers and the avant-garde designs for public and residential furniture, was born as a versatile element for entryways, passageways, or as a low tabletop.
