The clearly structured front with fluted pilasters and diagonally cut, stylized carved panels appears formally cohesive and calmly proportioned. Historical context: Compact cabinets of this type were standard furnishings in middle-class homes during the 1920s and 1930s. They served as flexible storage furniture in hallways, dining rooms, and bedrooms, and complemented larger sideboards and wardrobes. Art Deco transferred the design language of decorative modernism—geometric ornamentation, fluting, stylized plant motifs—to smaller pieces of functional furniture, which were mass-produced in workshops and combined solid craftsmanship with contemporary design. Features: Diagonally cut carved panels with stylized fan and leaf decoration in the upper corners of both doors. Fluted corner posts and grooved decorative moldings on the drawer front and door center mullion. Original brass knobs with rosettes and a functioning door lock with key. Design: The piece is formally in the French Art Deco style of circa 1930. The design follows a clear vertical structure: fluting and grooved moldings define the front, while the asymmetrically placed carved panels serve as a controlled decorative accent against the otherwise flat front, dominated by the grain pattern of the oak. The proportions are compact and balanced, the construction is a frame construction with filled door panels. Dimensions: Height 87 × Width 75 × Depth 45 cm. Material and condition: Solid oak. Well-preserved condition with age-related wear and a natural patina. Professionally inspected and refurbished by Kastellan, cleaned and oiled, structurally checked, stable and functional. One shelf inside; drawer and doors run smoothly, key included. See less
