Constructed in solid oak with the deep, near-black patina that only genuine age can produce, this substantial three-panel chest features outstanding carved decoration throughout — diamond lozenge panels with central rosettes, a beautifully executed central roundel with scrolling foliage, nulling frieze along the top rail and scroll-carved corner stiles. Original wrought iron hinges and pegged mortise and tenon construction throughout. The carving remains crisp and well defined, the patina rich and authentic. Originally used as a household storage chest for linens and bedding, today this versatile piece works equally well as a coffee table, hall bench or decorative storage chest. See less
