Original hand painted flat top trunk dated 1890 from Hungary, crafted in pine. The original hand painted folk art finish remains present throughout, with a very dark blue background that almost presents as black. Four highly painted turned half column details align the front, bordering decorative panels with vines, flowers, a central name, and the date 1890. Two square painted panels also accent the top. The dark midnight blue background is enriched with vibrant red, green, yellow, and white, all typical colors of Eastern European folk art, and the top retains a residual red flower motif as well. Age related separation is seen between the two planks that form the top, very typical for an item of this age. Hand wrought iron side handles add to the original character. Nicks, cracks, and very old signs of wormhole activity are seen throughout. Wormholes are dry and inactive. Nicks and cracks are noted along the top as well. Restored strong, stable, and ready to use. When opened, the lid reveals a small box at the left side that was originally used to store small private items. Separation of interior bottom planks.
