We are categorizing this superb piece as Folk Art because we don't believe it was a weathervane. We lean more on the possibility that it was part of a traveling theater, found in fairgrounds and carnivals, to entertain kids. It's a little of a mystery to us. But whatever was its initial purpose in life, its a profoundly envisioned rider on his horse. Or is it a mule? Horse or mule, It's done with much artistic talent. And to elevate it even more is the color combination of the paint used. We just love that green sweater. We love the mule. We love the determination and look of the young man. And we love that it's double sided. And though we're leaving it as is, you can probably remove the metal stand that the mule and rider are swaying from, to hang it on a wall. We leave those decisions to you. A fantastic antique piece of Folk Art history.
One last thing to point out. The full images of the piece are an accurate representation of the colors. The closeups came off a little washed off for some reason.
