The cameo is finely hand-carved with notable depth and assurance, reflecting the work of an experienced master and the finest traditions of Italian cameo carving.

The portrait presents a serene classical female profile with beautifully modelled, “living” facial features, rich sculptural presence, and an elegant sense of proportion. The hair is intricately carved and arranged in an antique-inspired style, while the softly draped garment is executed with careful undercutting, creating a strong sense of volume and movement.

The warm peach-toned shell ground contrasts gracefully with the luminous white relief, enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the carving. The cameo is housed in its original Victorian gilt metal mount, ornamented with delicate foliate detailing and crafted specifically to complement the carving. The brooch retains its original Victorian C-clasp closure.
