Considered by some a … Read more Paul Kruger was the president of Transvaal - the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. Considered by some a symbol of the Boer cause against the British colonial aggression. Based on a caricature of Kruger by Francis Gould - the first cast iron banks were produced by John Harper & Sons - a Birmingham foundry. Subsequently other sources produced similar banks such as this piece from approximately 1885 through 1905. Known as "Gazelie" for the typographic error on its attribution on the back. Purchased by the current owner in Johannesburg, South Africa during his tenure there in the early 1970's.

Measures 4.5" wide x 4" deep x 6" high.

In very good antique condition. Structurally sound with no cracks, brace, missing pieces, or issues of note. Retains original paint with areas worn from age/use. Some rusting on bottom. See photos for details. See less
