This elegant mid-19th century table vase is attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company, whose innovative designs helped establish American pressed and mold-blown glass as some of the finest produced during the period. Combining a mold-blown body with delicate wheel engraving, the vase reflects the refined decorative arts of the Victorian era and would have served as an attractive centerpiece for fresh flowers or greenery in a well-appointed home.
The vase features a gracefully tapered form with crisp vertical mold panels that catch and reflect light beautifully. Around the upper body is an intricately wheel-engraved border incorporating scrolling lines, geometric motifs, and stylized floral elements, demonstrating the skilled handwork that elevated these functional objects into works of decorative art. The combination of molded texture and finely engraved ornament creates an elegant balance that is characteristic of quality American art glass from the period.
The vase is in nice antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. It retains excellent clarity with expected light surface wear and the minor manufacturing irregularities associated with mid-19th century hand-finished glass. A beautiful and versatile example, it displays wonderfully on its own or filled with seasonal flowers as part of a period or contemporary interior. 6h x 4w x 4d
