A very classic pair of lobed and ribbed imari temple jars made during the edo period. It's rare to find a pair that have their lids, and be undamaged as well. The colors are strong. The blues are a very deep indigo color, and the white background is really bright. The ribbing of the jars really catches the light and makes the jars glow. The jars are decorated with imperial garden scenes that go around the jars. The glaze is superb and the pieces catch the light really well.
This is what the inscription on the bottom reads
Reading the columns from right to left:
大 日本 京
本 荘 正 珍
萬 勵 製 造
Or as one phrase:
大日本 京都 本荘 正珍 萬励 製造
Dai Nippon Kyoto Honsō Seichin Banrei seizō
Broken down:
• 大日本 - Dai Nippon = "Great Japan" - the standard nationalistic mark that dates it to the Meiji period (1868-1912) for the most part 
• 京都 - Kyoto = made in Kyoto
• 製 造 - seizō = manufactured / made
• The middle is the kiln / artist name: 本荘 正珍 / 萬励 - Honsō Shōchin / Banrei. It's a studio name, not an Imperial mark. These kinds of longer 12-character "Great Japan Kyoto..." marks were very common on export Imari made for the West.
So in plain English:
"Made by Seichin (Shōchin) Banrei, Honsō kiln, Kyoto, Great Japan"
