The plate was painted from nature by Berthe Hoola van Nooten and published in the third edition of Fleurs, Fruits et Feuillages Choisis de la Flore et de la Pomone de l'Ile de Java, issued by G. Severeyns in Brussels around 1880. Celebrated for its extraordinary richness of color and scientific accuracy, Hoola van Nooten's botanical plates rank among the finest chromolithographs of the nineteenth century. This composition beautifully illustrates the dramatic tropical inflorescence together with botanical details of the flower and fruit, capturing the elegance and exotic beauty of one of Southeast Asia's most iconic ornamental plants. Torch Ginger is native to Indonesia, Malaysia and surrounding tropical regions. Beyond its ornamental appeal, the plant has long been valued in Southeast Asian cuisine, traditional medicine and floral arrangements. Its spectacular flower heads remain popular in luxury tropical gardens worldwide. The print was produced using the sophisticated chromolithographic process, allowing for exceptionally vibrant colors and subtle tonal transitions that closely resemble the original watercolor paintings. Presented unframed. Images showing the print in a frame are for inspiration only. The frame is not included and may not be to scale. Condition: Good antique condition with age-related toning and minor foxing consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully. Maker: After Berthe Hoola van Nooten (1817–1892) Publisher: G.
