This aesthetic, known as the Space Age or Brussels Style, emerged following the phenomenal triumph of the Czechoslovak pavilion at the Expo 58 World's Fair in Brussels, where lamps of this exact typology were first exhibited to immense international acclaim. This piece was manufactured by the renowned Slovak cooperative Novoplast Sereď, a factory famous for pioneering new possibilities in synthetic materials. The defining feature of the lamp is its cylindrical shade made of vibrant red-colored fiberglass (laminate). The fiberglass possesses a distinct fibrous texture that, when illuminated, diffuses a gorgeous, warm, and highly atmospheric light.
