This antique chest from Sweden, circa 1830-1850, has been designed in the Gustavian Neoclassical style. The case houses two drawers with facade embellished with raised molded drawer panels in a graceful cartouche form, and fitted with decorative pull mounts and brass escutcheons at center. The drawers are flanked within canted front posts, with diamond and reed carved details adding an architectural interest. It is presented upon square tapered feet, with front feet following the canted design of the side posts. The painted surface has a layered patina that blends original paint remnants with later decorative overpainting, creating a richly textured and authentic appearance. Primary coloring is a creamy sand. This 19th century Swedish chest is both practical and decorative, and would work beautifully as a bedside table, side cabinet, or accent piece, bringing warmth, history, and Scandinavian charm to any interior.
