The swirling walnut wood grain and the bold reeding on the sides of this chest give it a distinctive personality. Along with the turned feet, the reeding along the sides, the top, and bottom are all Sheraton designs that were part of the broader Neoclassical style popular in the United States from 1800-1815. The thickness and depth of the three vertical columns of reeding on each side show clear Baltimore influence; however the use of walnut and more simple foot turnings point to an origin somewhere in the interior of Maryland emulating Baltimore tastes.
In great structural and functional condition, this piece is ready for daily use. While the glass knobs are a much later addition, they are good quality and could be kept or replaced.
