- Made of solid Verde Antico marble circa late 1800s or early 1900s*
- *During this era (specifically 1880-1910), artisans frequently produced high-end decorative stands in the Neoclassical and French Empire revival styles
- Quarry rediscovery: while Verde Antico was highly prized by the ancient Romans and Byzantines, the historic quarries in Greece were rediscovered and reopened in the 1860s, making the prized green stone accessible to late-Victorian and Edwardian craftsmen
- Gilded age opulence: in the late 1800s, luxury makers—particularly in France and Italy—frequently combined this vibrant marble with ornate, gilded metalwork to satisfy the taste for grand, theatrical home interiors
