Zinc was a favored medium among Continental sculptors of the period for exactly this kind of texture: it takes detail with a grainy, almost stone-like surface rather than the high polish of bronze, and it's considerably lighter to cast at scale while still carrying real heft in the hand.
The surface here carries an old two-tone painted finish, cool grey-blue against warm ochre, with fine natural craquelure throughout that speaks to real age rather than manufactured distress. Unsigned, with no visible foundry mark, dated by style and material to the early 20th century. Sourced at the Marché aux Puces in Paris. Substantial in the hand at roughly 24 lbs — this is not a hollow decorative casting but a dense, serious piece.
