An exceptionally dramatic Himalayan ritual mask, hand-crafted from repoussé gilt copper and lavishly adorned with hundreds of individually applied cabochon inlays in vibrant coral red and turquoise blue.
This striking ceremonial wall sculpture captures the powerful visual language associated with Tibetan Buddhist ritual art. The expressive face is framed by elaborate repoussé scrollwork and crowned with a magnificent headdress embellished with jewel-like tear-shaped medallions. Wide eyes, exaggerated cheeks, stylized brows, and an imposing grin are further animated by carved horn elements and natural bone or shell inlaid teeth, creating a sculpture of remarkable presence and theatricality.
Every surface reveals extraordinary handwork. Hundreds of individually set cabochons shimmer across the face, while delicate twisted wire ornamentation and repoussé detailing demonstrate the artisan's remarkable metalworking skill. The richly aged gilt surface has developed a beautiful patina accumulated over decades, adding warmth, authenticity, and depth impossible to replicate.
Viewed as sculpture rather than simply decoration, the mask possesses an undeniable architectural quality. Whether displayed in a library, entry hall, mountain retreat, curated gallery wall or globally inspired interior, it immediately becomes the focal point of the room.
The reverse reveals traditional hand-worked construction, with individually formed repoussé components secured from behind, characteristic of hand-crafted Himalayan decorative metalwork.
An exceptional object for collectors of Asian art, Tibetan decorative arts, ethnographic objects, and one-of-a-kind statement pieces.
