This delightful late Victorian petite (2 inch diameter) sterling silver bowl was crafted by the prestigious British silversmithing firm William Hutton & Sons at its artisan workshop in Sheffield, England. It has a sterling silver purity of 92.5% or .925 measurement and was produced around 1886.
It is in the shape of the Oneida Classic Shell - a formal and traditional Victorian design and features a detailed raised scallop shell endcap with a fan of clean fiddleback ridges.
Hallmarks shown:
The Lion Passant (a walking lion with one paw raised) which is the official British standard hallmark that guarantees the item is genuine sterling silver, meaning it is not silver-plated.
The Crown is the official mark for its production in Sheffield, England.
The Letter "t" in a lowercase Gothic/Old English font indicates its production in 1886.
This charming small bowl is a beautiful collectible and may also be used for presenting small items of jewelry or table spices and seeds.
