A pair of Danish lounge chairs with open bentwood armrests, Denmark, 1940s. The backrest rises to a softly flared upper profile — a continuous outward curve that gives the silhouette an open, receptive quality without the enclosure of a wingback form.
The open arm is the defining element. Each arm sweeps outward and downward in a continuous bentwood arc — broad at the grip, narrowing as it meets the seat rail — a form that belongs to the transitional moment between Art Deco amplitude and mid-century restraint.
The upholstery is a teal-ground boucle weave, close in texture and scale to the Danish residential commissions of the period. Three vertical channel seams divide the backrest, giving the upholstered surface a rhythmic, architectural quality. The welt-edged seat cushion speaks to upholstery work of deliberate workshop standard.
Tapered square legs in stained beech complete the silhouette — undecorated, load-bearing, resolved.
