An exceptional set of six Model 42 dining chairs designed by Kai Kristiansen, one of the defining figures of Danish mid-century furniture design. This model remains highly sought after among collectors for its sculptural "Z"-shaped arms, a signature detail that gives each chair a distinct architectural presence while echoing the sinuous, organic lines characteristic of Kristiansen's best work.
The frames are crafted from solid teak in a warm, cinnamon tone, with visible joinery and wood plugs that speak to the honest, quality construction typical of Danish workshops of the era. The pivoting back rests are both a design signature and a functional refinement, shifting gently to follow the sitter's movement and offering a level of ergonomic consideration well ahead of their time.
The seats have been fully restored with new webbing and foam beneath newly upholstered black vinyl, and the backs have likewise been reupholstered to match, offering a crisp, tailored contrast against the teak frames. The result is a set that is fully ready for daily use, with comfort and support brought back to like-new standards while preserving its period character.
Danish, circa 1960s.

Seats have been rebuilt with new webbing, foam, and vinyl upholstery; backs are newly upholstered to match. Tilt-back mechanisms operate smoothly throughout. As is typical of well-loved pieces of this vintage, there is light wear to a few of the legs, minor historic repairs around several wood plugs and to the backs of a couple of arms, and scattered minor nicks and scratches to the teak consistent with age and use. less
