A highly unusual and sculptural Swedish floor lamp produced by Bjerkås Armatur during the 1940s, embodying the poetic transition between Swedish Grace classicism and early Swedish Modernism.
The lamp is executed in wrought and cast metal with an exceptional green-black verdigris patinated surface, richly textured throughout. At the center stands a stylized mythological female figure framed by scrolling arms and floral-inspired detailing, creating a silhouette strongly connected to Nordic Grace and romantic Art Deco influences. The composition recalls the theatrical decorative arts movement seen in Sweden during the interwar and early postwar years, where folklore, antiquity and craftsmanship merged into functional objects.
The three-light candelabra top rises elegantly from a slender column terminating in a hand-forged scrolling tripod base. The twisted iron detailing and organic curves give the piece a distinctly handcrafted character rarely found in later production lighting.
What elevates this example further is the extraordinary surface. The oxidized verdigris finish combined with traces of warm gilded highlights creates remarkable depth and atmosphere, almost resembling an archaeological bronze object. The lamp shifts dramatically depending on lighting conditions — equally compelling lit or unlit.
An exceptionally decorative statement piece that works equally well in Swedish Grace, Art Deco, Mediterranean, Gothic Revival or contemporary curated interiors.
The pleated shades shown in the photographs are included and complement the lamp beautifully. This piece has an attribution mark,
