A mid-century Veneto niche, from the Northern Italian region of Casier, in the province of Treviso, with its distinctive circular gold backstamp by Tognana Porcellane, points to the historic Italian house tracing its industrial roots back to 1775. Their distinct circular gold shield logo reads "Tognana Porcellana D'Italia". The company is currently the leading brand in Italy for the production of porcelain tableware and household goods, as well as the manufacture of high-gloss porcelain pieces. Specialized artisan experts employ abundant soft, local kaolin-rich white porcelain clay that withstands ultra-high kiln-firing temperatures to achieve supreme durability and a smooth, vitreous surface. The aesthetics rely on a two-step decoration process, with a flawless, uniform black slip glaze across the body applied initially, and secondary firing, where a master decorator meticulously hand-paints 24-karat liquid gilt, creating golden scrolling accents and bands across the rim, base, and body, before a low-temperature firing fuses the gold luster directly to the dark glazing layer below. The ultimate subtle setting for indoor or outdoor use, it fits the kitchen table, parlor, as well as Hollywood Regency, Mid-Century Modern, and Italian Modern settings. See less

Normal, honest wear may have produced a few fleabites at the rim. Intricate 24-karat gilt work trims the circular rim, with whimsical hand-painted botanical trailing vines that are both natural and vibrant. The surface condition is exceptional, entirely free of rubbing to the gold leaf embellishments, indicating this vase was primarily used as a static decorative display piece rather than a utilitarian one. less
