The … Read more Traveling Man Treasures is selling this bronze & brass crouching Ibis sculpture designed in the classical Ancient Egyptian manner. The sculpture replicates the traditional multi-material format of the originals, combining a smooth, streamlined brass body with contrasting dark patinated metal bronze for the long curved beak, head, and extended legs. The piece is in great overall condition and rests securely on a black-painted wood plinth. The sculpture is in excellent condition with a warm patina enveloping the brass.

In Ancient Egyptian religion, the sacred ibis bird was highly revered as the living incarnation of Thoth, the god of wisdom, writing, magic, and moon. Statues like this were frequently produced during the Late Period and Ptolemaic Period (roughly 664–30 B.C.). They were placed in temples or catacombs as votive offerings, and larger, hollow versions often functioned as sacred coffins to house mummified ibises. See less
