This exceptional ceiling chandelier impressively combines the functional design language of the Bauhaus with the decorative elegance of Central European Art Deco. Likely created around 1930, it possesses all the characteristic features of that short but creatively fertile era between purism and decorative modernism.

The oval light fixture is made of nickel-plated metal and is supported by a remarkably lightweight wire or cable construction from a central canopy. This almost floating suspension reflects the typical design principles of the Bauhaus: construction is made visible, materials are used honestly, and the weight of the light is visually minimized.

The ring is adorned with eight opal glass light fixtures, complemented by a central ninth light, creating a balanced, almost sacred distribution of light. The stepped, geometric contours are reminiscent of stylized architectural forms and lend the piece its distinctive silhouette.

While the design clearly adheres to the functional ideals of German Modernism, the multi-tiered contours already reveal a decorative touch. It is precisely this combination of clarity and ornamentation that gives the piece its special appeal and distinguishes it from strictly purist Bauhaus lamps.

The design language shows remarkable parallels to the work of the important Czech metal artist Franta Anýž, whose designs are among the highlights of Czech Art Deco. Likewise, the ring-shaped construction is reminiscent of designs by Marcel Breuer, while the tiered contours evoke the Rondo Cubism of Pavel Janák and Josef Gočár. Although a direct attribution is not currently possible, stylistically the lamp clearly belongs to this Central European avant-garde movement.
