The richly layered interior depicts a sun-filled room overflowing with flowers, books, decorative porcelain and a piano, anchored by a fabulous red floral armchair in the foreground.

The painting is beautifully executed with loose, expressive brushwork and areas of thick impasto that give the flowers, textiles and surrounding objects wonderful texture and dimension. I especially love the abundance of the composition—there is something interesting everywhere you look, from the sheet music resting on the piano to the stacks of books and pottery on the table and the artwork hanging in the background.

There is a wonderfully collected, slightly grandmillennial quality to the scene that feels particularly fresh today. At nearly five feet tall in its frame, it has enough presence to anchor a room.

The 36 by 48 inch canvas is presented in a substantial gilt frame with an ivory linen liner and decorative carved details. Signed “Robbins” lower right and retaining a Joy’s Art label on the reverse.
