With freeform shape and texture, this low bench from Shandong province embodies the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy that beauty and integrity can be found within the imperfections of a timeworn object.
The low seat is comprised of a solid plank of reclaimed wood, shaped by hand from a salvaged log and elevated by simple chiseled legs. Textured with blade marks and gnarled movements in the wood grain, the primitive bench exemplifies the enduring appeal of organic forms and natural materials.
