An iconic Postmodern sculptural console table designed by Kaizo Oto for Design Institute America circa 1990.
This striking architectural console embodies the bold geometric aesthetic that defined luxury Postmodern design at the close of the twentieth century. A substantial beveled glass top appears to float effortlessly above an expressive mixed-metal base composed of polished brass, brushed chrome, black lacquered steel, and a dramatic circular steel ring intersected by a contrasting white vertical element.
The asymmetrical composition creates a sense of movement from every angle, making the piece as much functional sculpture as furniture. Rich material contrasts between reflective brass, industrial chrome, black lacquer, and thick glass exemplify the sophisticated craftsmanship that made Design Institute America one of the premier American manufacturers of high-end contemporary furniture during the 1980s and 1990s.
Ideal for use in an entry foyer, behind a sofa, beneath artwork, or as a dramatic statement in a modern, Hollywood Regency, Memphis Milano, or contemporary interior.
Retains its original Design Institute America label.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
Original beveled glass top with one small edge chip (pictured) that does not affect structural integrity.
Light surface scratches and age-appropriate wear to the polished brass, along with expected patina to the chrome support column. Black lacquered base shows minor cosmetic wear consistent with careful use.
