The décor features a sandy-brown, granular glaze speckled with glossy red, overlaid with a glossy "Fat Lava" drip glaze in fantastic shades of dark and petrol blue. It is an absolute standout piece for the serious collector or enthusiast of West German ceramics.

Ceramano was the brainchild of Jakob Schwaderlapp, the founder of Jasba Keramik. He established this sister factory in 1959 to produce high-quality, artistic, and often experimental ceramics that complemented Jasba’s mass-produced lines. Previously, the production of such items had been limited to small workshops. Schwaderlapp’s concept was to replicate the look and feel of artisanal craftsmanship using modern production methods. The company debuted at the Frankfurt Spring Fair with an extensive product range, introducing Hanns Welling as the designer responsible for all Ceramano shapes and décors. Welling remained at the helm until 1962, when the role of chief designer was handed over to Gerda Heuckeroth.

The vase is in very good vintage condition. There are a few tiny surface scratches on the blue glaze and a minor production flaw—an imperfection in the glaze on the lower rim (resembling a small chip but not actual damage)—but nothing distracting; indeed, almost all of these pieces featured minor production quirks, as they were handcrafted objects.
