Trinidad Ball (British, b.1961) – "Together" (2012) | Original Oil on Canvas | Contemporary Coastal Painting
Subject & Medium
An original oil on canvas titled Together, painted in 2012 by the acclaimed contemporary British artist Trinidad Ball. This beautifully observed coastal scene depicts two figures walking across a vast shoreline at low tide beneath an expansive sky, capturing a quiet moment of companionship against the timeless backdrop of sea and light.
Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting explores universal themes of connection, tranquillity and reflection. The expansive beach, soft light and mirrored reflections in the wet sand create an atmosphere of calm that invites contemplation. Executed with Ball's characteristic sensitivity, the work is an elegant example of contemporary British realism.
Composition & Technique
Ball is celebrated for reducing a landscape to its essential elements—sea, sky, light and space. Here, broad horizontal bands of muted blues, greys and soft neutrals create a remarkable sense of openness, while the two distant figures provide a subtle yet powerful focal point.
Delicate glazing, controlled brushwork and carefully balanced tonal transitions produce a luminous surface with an almost ethereal quality. The restrained colour palette and uncluttered composition evoke serenity, making this a painting that rewards quiet observation and brings a calming presence to an interior.
About the Artist
Trinidad Ball (born 1961) is an internationally recognised contemporary British painter, born in Barcelona to Catalan parents. After living in Spain, Latin America and England, she studied at Central Saint Martins, Putney School of Art and South Thames College before becoming a full-time professional artist.
Her work has been exhibited widely throughout the United Kingdom and internationally, including at the Mall Galleries, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition, the Society of Women Artists, The London Group Open, and the Affordable Art Fair in London and New York. In 2008 she received the prestigious ING Maynell Fenton Prize.
Ball's paintings are admired for their atmospheric quality, subtle use of light and exploration of themes including memory, solitude, companionship and the restorative power of nature.
